FAQ

Q: Do you have to be a resident of Collin County to receive a meal at Community Garden Kitchen?

A: No, you do not have to be a resident of Collin County to receive a meal. Any individual, or family, even if they live in a different county, are welcome to receive a nutritious meal during our daily serving time, which will be Monday-Thurs. from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Q: My church has a volunteer group that lends time to various nonprofits. Is this a place where we could come and help?

A: Yes, your church group is welcome to volunteer! In fact, groups from local companies and other organizations throughout the community are all welcome to volunteer. We can help you coordinate your volunteer day, whether it’s in the kitchen or in the garden. For additional information please email us at: volunteercoordinator@communitygardenkitchen.org

Q: How is it envisioned that individuals will qualify to receive meals at the Community Garden Kitchen? Will there be an official “intake” process?

A: We feel strongly that the Community Garden Kitchen’s mission will be best fulfilled by establishing no barriers. No paperwork or intake process is planned. Not only will the absence of these administrative tasks reduce cost, but it will also minimize the fear and shame people experience when they seek help for their food needs.

Q: I would like to do a food drive for Community Garden Kitchen. What kind of foods do you need?

A: To serve healthy meals to our guests, we will need all the basics: protein, canned and fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy, and breads. For additional information please contact Cindy Solomon at: cindysolomon@communitygardenkitchen.org

Q: Does the Community Garden Kitchen just serve food?

We strive daily towards making our community a little bit healthier, stronger and food secure.  Fortunately there are many agencies in the county that provide other needs.  As the only kitchen in the county, we are keeping the main thing, the main thing.  Information about other non-profits and assisting agencies is available in the dining area.
